Photos of the pilgrimage church of St. John of Nepomuk
at
Zelena Hora - Green Mountain
near Zdar nad Sazavou, Czech Republic. It was built between 1719 and
1722 in an architectonic style called Baroque Gothic which has no parallel
anywhere in Europe. The abbot of the Zdar monastery had this pilgrimage
church built to celebrate the memory of the Czech martyr and saint, John
of Nepomuk. Built by Prague architect Giovanni Blasius Santini, who decided
to use the five-pointed star as the principal symbol in his remarkable
structure.
